Mount Kenya National Park was gazette in 1949 as a protected area to conserve Mount Kenya, Animals surrounding Mount Kenya and also to act as a water catchment area to supply water in Kenya. The Park has an area of 715 square Kilometer above 3000m above sea level and forest covers an area of 705 square kilometer. At lower altitudes, there are elephants, Black and white colobus Monkey, cape buffaloes and among other animals. Tourists can enjoy mountain climbing, camping and caving with the mountain’s rugged glacier-clad peaks providing the perfect backdrop.
